Wastewater and Nature Walk Tour on WTD Eve

Earlier today FLUSH joined organization partners NYU, NYC H2O, and the Newtown Creek Alliance (NCA) in hosting a walking tour around Queens and Brooklyn to highlight the current sewer challenges of New York City and efforts to overcome them.

We had three main stops on our 2.5-hour (3-mile) tour, led by Willis from NCA:

-The Combined Sewage Overflow (CSO) outputs in Dutch Kills, showing the problems with raw sewage going into the waterways and the newly-constructed wetlands the city has piloted there to improve water quality;

-The greenroof garden at Kingsland Wildflower to highlight green infrastructure initiatives; and,

-The nature walk tucked behind the Newtown Creek Wastewater Treatment Center, the largest treatment plant in the city.

The event had sold out quickly after we announced it, and it was well attended by those who registered for the free event.
